Planet & People

It is our responsibility to help build a better, more inclusive and sustainable world

At Samsic UK, the spaces we care for and the people who care for them are one and the same responsibility.

Sustainability isn’t something we bolt on at the end of a contract conversation. It’s built into how we deliver our services, how we treat our people and how we work with clients and suppliers to make a genuine, measurable difference across more than 3,400 sites throughout the UK.

Our strategy is organised around three pillars: Environment, People and Governance. Not because it looks good on a page, but because those three things genuinely shape every decision we make.

ENVIRONMENT

Cleaner services. Lower impact. A better built environment for everyone.

We are committed to reducing the environmental footprint of our operations while helping our clients reduce theirs. That means making smarter choices about the products we use, how we transport them, how we run our fleet and how we procure across our supply chain.

We don’t just talk about low-carbon cleaning, we track it, report it and hold ourselves accountable to it through our ISO 14001-certified environmental management system.

What we’ve achieved

Carbon neutral for 2025

We achieved Scope 1 and 2 carbon neutrality for 2025 through verified carbon offset projects certified to the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and through real operational changes that were already in place. We’re continuing to expand the accuracy of our full Scope 3 reporting, working closely with our supply chain to capture a more complete picture year on year.

Renewable energy across our offices

All Samsic UK offices now run on 100% renewable electricity.

Emissions down year-on-year

Our Scope 1 and 2 emissions fell 3% from 2024 to 2025 from 552 tCO₂e to 535 tCO₂e as we continue to reduce what we can and offset what we can’t.

An electrifying fleet

31% of our vehicle fleet is now made up of electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles, including cars chosen by employees through our company car scheme. Fleet electrification is one of our most significant levers, and we’re accelerating it.

Sustainable consumables at scale

92% of the cleaning consumables used across our national cleaning operations are classified as sustainable. The carbon intensity of delivering those consumables and chemicals to our sites fell by 43% in the last year alone.

Certified environmental management

Our environmental management system is certified to ISO 14001:2015, giving us a structured, auditable framework for continual improvement, regulatory compliance and environmental performance monitoring across the business.

Near-paperless operations

Digital reporting systems and platforms mean our back-office operations generate minimal paper waste.

PEOPLE

The people who clean your buildings deserve as much care as the buildings themselves.

Our 4,300+ colleagues are the reason our service works. We invest in their safety, their development, their financial wellbeing and their mental health, because a business that genuinely looks after its people delivers a better service, full stop.

We also believe in the communities our people live and work in. Not in a performative way, but through real hours, real partnerships and real impact that shows up in the lives of the people around us.

What we offer

Real Living Wage

We are a Living Wage Foundation Recognised Service Provider. Paying the real Living Wage isn’t a marketing position for us – it’s a commitment to the people who make our service possible.

Financial wellbeing that goes beyond a payslip

Stream gives our employees controlled, flexible access to the pay they’ve already earned,  helping reduce the financial pressure that affects so many people in our industry. All colleagues also access a 24/7 discount portal covering groceries, healthcare and household costs.

Mental health support, always available

Our Mental Health First Aiders are trained, available and there when people need them, providing confidential support across the business, not just during awareness weeks.

Training and development that opens doors

We hold 53 live apprenticeships and have seen 20 completed to date. We also donate a portion of our Apprenticeship Levy to the Midlands Air Ambulance, funding approximately three to four additional apprenticeships every year beyond our own organisation. Multilingual inductions, translated health and safety materials and mentorship with senior leaders ensure that career development is genuinely accessible to all.

WELL Building Standard support for clients

We support clients in achieving WELL Building Standard certification, helping create healthier, more productive workplaces for building occupants. Our cleaning protocols, product choices and operational documentation are all aligned to support WELL compliance where our clients need it.

Over 364 hours of volunteering in the first half of 2026

104 Samsic colleagues gave their time to community initiatives in the first six months of 2026 alone. That number isn’t a target, it’s what happens when people feel connected to the business they work for.

GOVERNANCE

We hold ourselves to the same standards we apply to our supply chain.

Strong governance isn’t a compliance exercise. It’s the foundation that makes everything else credible, the reason our clients can trust the claims we make, and the reason our suppliers know exactly what we expect of them.

Our strategic suppliers are required to uphold our ESG Charter, covering human rights and labour standards, health and safety, environmental responsibility and ethical conduct. We treat supply chain governance as seriously as we treat operational governance, because the two are inseparable.

We publish our carbon emissions annually in compliance with the UK Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) regulations. We are committed to publishing our first full sustainability report and Net Zero strategy in the coming months, setting out our long-term targets with the transparency our clients, colleagues and stakeholders deserve.

Our Accreditations

We’re not where we want to be yet. And we’re honest about that.

Sustainability is a direction, not a destination. We’ve made real progress on emissions, on our fleet, on the way our people are supported and the way our supply chain is governed. But we know that our full carbon picture is larger than Scope 1 and 2, that targets need to be set with rigour, and that the most meaningful sustainability commitments are the ones that hold up to scrutiny.

That’s the standard we’re holding ourselves to. Not because we’re required to, but because it’s the right thing to do for the people, clients and communities we serve every day.

GENERAL BUYER QUESTIONS

  • Yes. Samsic UK achieved Scope 1 and 2 carbon neutrality for 2025 through a combination of operational reductions, including fleet electrification, the removal of mains gas from our London office and the transition to 100% renewable electricity across all UK offices and investment in verified carbon offset projects certified to the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS). We are continuing to expand our Scope 3 reporting and will publish our first full sustainability report and Net Zero strategy in the coming months.

TECHNICAL AND PROCUREMENT QUESTIONS

  • Scope 1 emissions are direct emissions from sources owned or controlled by Samsic UK, primarily our vehicle fleet and gas combustion. Scope 2 emissions are indirect emissions from the electricity we purchase. Achieving Scope 1 and 2 carbon neutrality means we have reduced and offset all emissions within those categories for 2025. Scope 3 covers all other indirect emissions across our value chain including employee commuting, supply chain and purchased goods and services, which account for the largest proportion of our total footprint. We are actively working to improve the accuracy and completeness of our Scope 3 data and will set formal reduction targets once that picture is sufficiently robust.

  • Our carbon offsets are certified to the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), administered by Verra one of the most widely recognised and rigorous standards for carbon offset verification globally. Project developers must demonstrate that emissions reductions have occurred as a direct result of the project, with all claims independently audited. When offsets are retired, this is recorded on a public registry, providing full transparency and traceability.

  • Our environmental management system is certified to ISO 14001:2015 by an independent third-party assessor. It provides a structured framework for identifying, managing and continually improving our environmental performance, covering energy and resource consumption, waste management, regulatory compliance and supplier environmental standards. Annual surveillance audits ensure the system remains effective and up to date.

  • Strategic suppliers are required to uphold the principles of our ESG Charter, covering human rights and labour standards, health and safety, environmental responsibility and ethical business conduct. We are a member of the Supply Chain Sustainability School, which provides tools and training to help organisations embed sustainability throughout their supply chains. We also conduct due diligence on supplier practices as part of our Modern Slavery Act compliance.

  • We are developing our capability to provide contract-level carbon data, covering the energy, water and emissions associated with cleaning operations at individual client sites. This is currently in development. Speak to our team to discuss what reporting capability is available for your contract and how we can support your sustainability reporting requirements.

  • Samsic UK supports clients in achieving and maintaining WELL Building Standard certification through WELL-aligned cleaning protocols, low-VOC and low-hazard product selection, hygiene and water management procedures, waste management planning and documentation to support WELL submissions and audits. Our teams are trained to understand the WELL concepts most influenced by cleaning operations including Air, Water, Materials and Community, and can provide the evidence and operational records clients need for their certification process.

  • We publish an annual Modern Slavery Statement in compliance with the Modern Slavery Act 2015, covering our assessment of risk across our operations and supply chain and the steps we take to identify, prevent and mitigate modern slavery practices. Our supply chain due diligence process includes Tier 1 supplier mapping across cleaning, security, catering and maintenance. Our Modern Slavery Statement is available on our website.
