Case Study

Scott Bader

Scott Bader are a global manufacturer of adhesives, composites and functional polymer, based in the UK village of Wollaston.

The Benefits

The quality of security standards at Scott Bader has significantly improved following the beginning of the Samsic contract. Initial monthly key performance indicators have risen from 96% to 103%, but the key difference is in the compliance of the site.

With SamTech, security officers are accountable for checks and patrols, and with justification and reporting of issues, Samsic management can support the team with any difficulties or incidents. New processes and management support of the team has enforced a quality, consistent service that is in line with the high standard Scott Bader requires.

There are very few incidents at Scott Bader, and these are now handled quickly and efficiently.

The mobilisation plan and weekly update meetings ensure that Scott Bader’s management is kept up to date with incidents, issues, actions taken to counteract any issues, and what areas are succeeding and failing. The client here has access to how the security service is performing in a real, measurable way, and confidence and communication between Samsic and Scott Bader is strong.

The Challenge

Scott Bader began working with Samsic in February 2022, seeking the expertise and capability that a larger facilities management company provides.

The Scott Bader site is high-risk, full of specialist and dangerous machinery. The production areas contain hazards such as incinerators, huge containers of chemicals, and large industrial-sized engines.

Certain areas are of tremendously high risk of fire, where staff are required to use latex-coated mobile phones to minimise the risk of any sparks.

With so many dangerous areas requiring patrols and monitorisation, the client’s requirements were to:

  • Implement regular site patrols
  • Complete necessary checks of machinery during weekend hours
  • Make sure all 400 site fire extinguishers are ensured for compliance
  • Drastically improve the responsiveness of the security team
  • Implement new processes, standards, and managerial functions to help support and ensure Scott Bader is receiving the world-class service required for such a compliance-centric site

The Solution

To strengthen the security service, Samsic introduced numerous processes into Scott Bader’s security team.

Three months prior to the start of the contract a mobilisation plan was introduced. The plan acts as an exhaustive list of activities and scenarios for security on-site. Used as a guide, the mobilisation plan is reviewed weekly by both Samsic and Scott Bader management to assess and track contract progress.

The security team for Scott Bader was introduced to SamTech, our security accountability and reporting platform. SamTech supports management as the security team must scan site patrol tags, ensuring patrols have been completed and holding the team accountable for their duties. Machinery checks, statuses, and measurements are also entered into the platform, so Samsic can report on safety in the production areas in real time.

By logging into SamTech, the security team also benefits as they are given an opportunity to report problems and receive needed support straight away. Potential issues such as intruders on-site can be reported, and these findings help management to put the correct support in place. Preliminary precautions can also be made to support the team and secure the site for the client.

Following the creation of the mobilisation plan, nineteen new standard operating procedures were formalised for the security team. Difficult tasks, such as the creation of Site Access Cards, now have step-by-step instructions with imagery and are a guideline on how to complete tasks to a high standard.
